Nfwiti...Witchcraft

Nfwiti means witchcraft in Chinyanja. It is a topic that I have been teaching against for quite some time. Witchcraft is deeply ingrained in the Nsenga culture, so in order to help our readers understand better the Nsenga culture I thought I would share with you what was shared with me yesterday at Biyulu Village.

Specifically in this blog I would like to talk about the witchcraft that the Nsenga people experience in their dreams. Lately at Biyulu I have been teaching on prayer and crying out to God.  I have taught from Psalm 121, that our help comes from God. Then from James 1:6-8, Matthew 21:18-22, John 14:12-14, and Mark 10:46-52 in these passages I am teaching praying in faith. I have told them that when witchcraft comes they should cry out to God and that He would deliver them from the witchcraft that is coming to them. Before I elaborate on the testimonies of dreams,  I will tell you of my conversation with our guard, Paul. I asked him, "how do you know the difference between dreams and witchcraft dreams?". Paul repled that witchcraft is real like a vision not just a dream and you will always see a person in these visions. The person can come to you in human form or sometimes even change into animals within the dream to decieve the one with whom they are trying to injure. I took his comments at face value because these types of dreams where witchcraft comes to them. These dreams are so wide spread here among the Nsenga there has to be a battle in the dreams of these people between them and Satanic forces.

So.... I started teaching yesterday and asked if their were any testimonies about prayer from this past week. A lady spoke up and said that she had a testimony. This was her story: she was sleeping and in her vision she saw a tree on fire with a man standing beside it. She tried to wake her husband but he didn't wake at first and the fire really started getting big "like a movie". She said she was finally able to wake her husband and immediatly he said let's start praying. She said we prayed and didn't stop! Finally after praying for a time the fire and the man just disappeared. She was very thankful for the teaching about prayer.
Another lady confessed she had experienced witchcraft, but didn't know to pray. I believe she learned her lesson because when I asked someone to close us in prayer when we had finished our lesson, the lady who didn't pray when witchcraft came, prayed a good closing prayer! She said when she finished praying, "Now I know to pray!"

I thank God for your prayers because truly wars are being waged that we may not even know about.

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12.

Please continue praying for us and praying for the Nsenga people as they learn the power of Christ is greater than these things of witchcraft that come to them in their dreams.
