The Two Trees

It is amazing to me how God uses His creation to teach us more about Himself, or to challenge us to grow and mature to be more like Him. One afternoon this week I was walking with Lauren around the yard and I noticed that one of our trees was in desperate need of water. I then looked to my left and noticed that the Flamboyant tree's flowers had bloomed their gorgeous crimson that brightens the dull and dreary dry season in Zambia. The Lord really spoke to me as I looked at these two trees. God created the tangerine tree to be watered and not to tolerate extreme heat without water. On the other hand, the Flamboyant tree was created to thrive in hot, dry conditions and flourishes in those times. God made these trees different, but as I prayed over what the Lord was trying to teach me Psalm 1:1-3 kept coming to my mind.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of
sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." Psalm 1:1-3

God created us to always depend on Him and to continue to be like trees planted by the streams of water so that we can continue to drink of the Water that gives life. The further our roots grow away from the water, the drier we become like the tangerine tree in my yard. The Flamboyant is a strong tree and no matter what the weather it thrives. I want to be like the Flamboyant tree that no matter what the "weather" of my life may be, I want to blossom with the love of Christ and never cease to grow stronger in my faith and understanding of His love for me and the life of obedience that I desire to live.
