Where Are These Places You Speak Of??

The purpose of this post is to help acquaint you with the area that Kendall and I work in.

  • The entire country of Zambia is a little larger than the state of Texas.
  • Zambia is divided into provinces: Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern, and Copperbelt.
  • Nyimba is located in the Eastern Province of Zambia, 3 1/2 hours east of the capital, Lusaka.
  • South of our area is the country of Mozambique and the country east of Zambia is Malawi.

I know this is hard to read, but on left side of this picture you will see Lusaka. The blue road going east out of Lusaka is called The Great East Road. This is the road that leads to our home. Above the "M" in Mozambique is Nyimba, located on the Great East Road. Follow that road and you will see a town called Chipata. Chipata is where we studied language for a year.
This picture shows the entire area that Kendall and I work in. Locate Kacholola to the west of Nyimba. Now, locate Petauke. From Kacholola to Petauke is the area where we serve among the Nsenga people.
Okay, now to show you exactly where some of the places are that you may have read about in our prayer letters or on our blog.
Kacholola is where Mombwe Baptist is and where Joy taught at her first associational women's meeting in October. There are 5 Baptist churches in the Kacholola district. Pray for Kendall as he begins teaching here.
Luwembe is where Chisomo Baptist is located. Pray for the chief that lives there, Chief Luwembe that God would touch his heart and change him to be a peaceful and loving leader. Pray for Benjamin Phiri as he lives, works, and preaches at Chisomo. We cannot get to Luwembe in the rains because the mountains are so steep and the roads are dangerous.
In between Chilembwe and Old Petauke is where Mwape Central is located. In order to reach this area, we must travel to Petauke and then go through Old Petauke. Mwape is 125 kilometers/78 miles from our home. Pray for the people of Mwape, they are faithful and committed to Jesus Christ even though they are so far from the rest of the association churches.
Petauke is where 40 days and 40 night safari orientation for all new Southern Africa missionaries is held. This is also a location for a Bible School. Pray for John Francis and Josephine Tembo as they live in Petauke, where they are home missionaries to their Zambian brothers and sisters. Pray that God will guide them and lead them as they encourage churches and evangelize.
Now for the challenge....look west of Nyimba a bit and you will see a little pink road that is going the direction of Mozambique but there is no destination. This is the "Mozambique turnoff" so wel call it! This is the road that Kendall takes into Mozambique. In another post, I will provide a map of Mozamibique so you can follow closely the progress of the work among the Nsenga of Mozambique.

So helpful to be able to "see" the places you have written about and be able to "place" where the churches and towns are! Thanks for helping us out with regard to getting familiar with your service area!
