A Time of Desperate Hunger

On Wednesday morning at about 11:00, we heard a noise that was familiar to us, but very unfamiliar in Nyimba. A helicopter was flying very low and slow near our home, then we realized that it was landing about 200 yards from our house! We were all filled with excitement, we opened the gate and ran down the road to see the helicopter and to find out what was going on. The helicopter was a Zambian Air Force helicopter. They were on a mission of transporting corn and kerosene to a very remote village called, Chikwasha. Chikwasha is so remote that the most efficient way to reach this village is by air. If one were to desire to travel to Chikwasha by land they would have to travel from Nyimba by bus 1-2 hours, then by bike or foot travel for 2-3 days and cross two rivers and through the mountains to reach it. My heart broke when I heard of the hunger that is there. Due to the abundant heavy rains in their village this year, none of the people were able to save any of their crops. Food is absent and people are dying of hunger. Wednesday the Air Force made five trips to Chikwasha and today made another five, delivering food to this village. Kendall and I wanted to ask the pilot to deliver tracts for us, but we found out that they speak Bemba and all we had were Chinyanja, we have learned to keep Bemba tracts on hand now! Pray for the people of Chikwasha. Pray that God would supply all of their needs. Pray that someone would go there and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
