Reptile Rendevous

Over the past month, Kendall and I both have had one-on-one meetings with African reptiles. Here are the stories, please forgive the fact that I only have a picture of one of them.
One evening as we sat in our living room we began to hear our 2 German Shepherds barking so loud and fast that we began to wonder what was going on. Just then my phone rang and it was our helper Zeria on the line...,"Bambo Kendall needs to come there is a snake!" Kendall immediately ran outside to meet our night guard, Paul with a large pipe in his hand killing the snake. It was a Mozambique Spitting Cobra and had spat upon the dogs but did not harm them. We were so thankful that the dogs saw the snake and that the children were not in the yard at the time!

The weekend of the Nyimba Associational meeting all of the churches came together for worship. The building is not big enough to hold everyone so we had church outside under a tree. As we stood to sing our first hymn, I looked down after standing and right next to me was a large black lizard. He was about 1 foot long and FAT! I yelped (as most white women would do) and scampered to hide behind my African friends. They began laughing as I peered back to my seat, just then, Amai (Mrs.) Sakala kicked that lizard with her bare feet into the bushes. Needless to say, it was a big moment and my friends at church had a good laugh at the fraidy cat white woman who was startled by the BIG black lizard that found its place next to ME in church!!

that is so disgusting. marc has told me stories about spitting cobras in his yard in africa growing up and it freaks me out. you are so brave my friend, even if you did run and hide from a lizard. :)

I am so glad you were able to provide some laughter for your friends in church and for your friends at home!! Now with that said, I am so thankful that y'all weren't outside when that snake was.

Gross, Joy! I would have been right there wit chu freaking out about those reptiles. Ughhh...there were some lizards in our house when I was in Senegal, and I always screamed until someone shooed them outside. As Napoleon would say "Sick!"
