"Lord, is this really where you want me to be? Are the kids really learning anything or am I just going because I think that is where you want me? Guide me and show me without a doubt that this is where you want me to be." Later that day, I went the 800 meters to meet and teach the children. When I arrived, they told me that many of the kids were in the boma and that there were people singing and giving out "sweeties"(candy) so several kids were there. The ones that came to meet said that they didn't want to miss! That made me happy! We sang and I taught them, we prayed and I asked them if they had any questions. Rebecca piped up and said,"We want to have a weekend meeting this weekend! We want you to come Friday-Sunday and teach us!" I was shocked and Zeria was as well! They were serious. I asked them why they wanted to meet and they said, "because we want to learn more and sing and play!" There was my answer. God answered my prayer through a precious request from these children that hold a big place in my heart. I was beaming and so was Zeria! Before we left, they sang a song they had made up that basically welcomes Zeria and I to "Nyimba Church". When I got home, I couldn't stop smiling and telling Kendall how thankful I was that they wanted to learn! So this weekend, beginning on Friday, we had our first "Sunday School Weekend Meeting" (that is what the kids called it!)
I have been meeting with the children for 10 weeks now and I felt like the Lord was leading me to present the Gospel to them. Since we were meeting for three consecutive days I thought it was perfect so that they could understand salvation (as best they could). On Saturday morning, I shared with them the bridge illustration and I didn't get to explain and teach how to accept Christ before the session ended. I was shocked and saddened when the children said that they had never heard John 3:16 before. Again, the Lord reminded me that THIS is where I needed to be for this time! The kids begged me to come back at 2pm to continue teaching about salvation. To begin the afternoon session, Zeria had a great idea to ask 4 of the older kids to take turns sharing the bridge illustation so that we could see what they truly learned. It was so good to see them think through it and ask great questions! (Below: Bupe explains the bridge)
They had difficult questions that we worked through. After a 2.5 hour time of teaching and discussion, 7 children prayed to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior! After a day of being so nervous and having no appetite, my heart was so happy and overflowing with joy for these children!
Please pray for these babes in Christ, from left to right: Blessings, Mary, Juliet, Rebecca, Bupe, Melvin, and Moses! Pray that I can continue to disciple them in their new life in Jesus! None of them come from Christian homes. Thank you for your prayers this weekend! God was so good and IS SO GOOD!
