Taking A Stand...Against Tradition

"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."   Matthew 10:28

Kendall taught about Hell today at Chitepo. One of the main verses that he taught on was Matthew 10:28. He encouraged them to fear God and not man. Along with this he encouraged them to stand up and say "NO" to the traditional maturity and marriage rites that run deep within this culture. Specifically in this culture, the grandmothers keep the traditions, that are not of Christ, going in the families. The culture is fear based and for them to stand up and say no to participating in these traditions would be a sign of disrespect and they would fear what others may say and do to them.

Kendall taught the lesson and finished. As he finished, they heard drums within the village. The people told him that their was a maturity ceremony taking place at a neighboring house. The women that were attending the ceremony called to the young girls at the Bible Study and told them to come sing and dance. The girls boldly said, "NO, we just finished studying God's Word"   and walked away. This was awesome to see! They took what they learned today at Bible Study and were faced with a decision to follow and encourage tradition or say no and walk with Christ and these young girls chose Christ!
Pray for the girls that are so faithful to attend Bible Study at Chitepo.
Continue to pray for God to raise up a leader in this village.
Pray for Paul as he goes there to preach every other Sunday.
Praise the Lord for the excitement that these believers have for Christ!
