Decorated Home and Heart

It is almost Christmas time and for the first time since we have moved to Zambia, I am really excited about Christmas. We have so much to praise the Lord for this year, and what better time than Jesus' birthday to praise Him for the awesome year that we have had! Our kids are getting old enough to understand a little bit more and they were a great help in decorating our house this year!

This is the tree that Kendall bought on Christmas Eve when we lived in Chipata. It has been through a lot and the top of it has had several surgeries, but it has personality and is full of ornaments that have great significance.

When we walk out of our door each day during the month of December, there is no reminders on houses or on storefronts that remind us that it is about to be Christmas. Seeing as how our children have spent almost all of their Christmases in Zambia, they are pretty naive to an American Christmas. Easton found this stuffed person in a box and instead of us all yelling, "SANTA", we paused and asked Easton who that man was, his response, "The Christmas man, but Christmas is Jesus' birthday". Kendall and I were happy with that response!

Last Christmas, Kendall started a new family Christmas tradition. Before we put up the Christmas tree, we all make Christmas decorations with the basic craft materials, construction paper and crayons. This manger scene is the decoration that Kendall made last year, it will always be a part of our Christmas decorations from now on to remind us of the simplicity of Christmas.

The Christmas decorations that we made this year!

"The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you. 'Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin?'
The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:28-37
