Slowing Down and Looking Around

This week has been a change of pace for our family. For the past 3 nights, it has rained all night long into the morning leaving the ground saturated with water and the roads next to impossible to travel to reach the villages that Kendall teaches at. It has been different, refreshing, and lonely all at the same time. Different because we are always going and doing something refreshing because we have more time as a family and more time to meet new people in the boma (town) of Nyimba, and lonely because we really miss our friends in the villages.
On Friday, I walked to the market for some things and I really realized that although I have walked to the market before, I felt like a bug under a microscope, the similar feeling came to me when we first came to Zambia. Then I realized that I usually visit the market in the morning, not at 2 p.m. People were yelling at me and then were amazed when I would answer their questions in Chichewa....then it hit me. I don't know my neighbors. In Acts 1:8 it says, "be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria..." I think I have forgotten about Jerusalem (my home).
On Saturday, Kendall decided to walk to the market because we had talked about the fact that we couldn't go to the villages but we could go down the street to the market. He met some new people and is feeling very pressed to begin prayer walking Nyimba each week. There are several bars and a mosque in our little town. Those places are dark and are huge spiritual strongholds.
Pray for Kendall and I as we begin to do simple things like making more friends in the town of Nyimba that are not saved.
Pray that even though things are slowing down for a little while that we would not grow weary in our task of reaching the lost for Christ.
Pray that as we leave our gate we would be salt and light to all ofthose we meet.
