Greetings from Zambia via Snellville, GA!
As many of you know Joy and Kendall have had some power surge issues. Joy has communicated with me and has asked that I give an update on their ministries.
During Joy's first literacy session August 13, she had four women attend. They came and met for two hours and forty-five minutes! Their goal is to be able to identify and recognize the letters of the alphabet, write their children' s names, and write their own names. Zeria went along with Joy to help teach. They worked on saying the letters " A through M" and practicing writing their names. Sure enough the chalkboard that was to made from soil came with one of the ladies and Joy said it was beautiful!
This past Wednesday brought the four ladies back. Zeria worked with two ladies that were a little more advanced and Joy with the other two ladies. They worked on saying and recognizing the letters "N" through "Z". One added attraction this week was twenty-five children watching and listening to the lesson! Joy said when they started saying the letters of the alphabet the children joined in too!
On Thursdays Joy has begun to teach Bible stories using the T4T model. Six ladies were in attendance. Using this model, she orally teaches the Bible story and the ladies are to retell the story to an accountability partner and there is a memory verse. They can ask questions before they leave. They are to SOT Say the story , Obey the lesson learned, and Tell the story to someone else. During this time there were a good group of children present so Joy wasn't able to have the questioning time with the ladies. This week she hopes to review the story and have them ready to retell and go out to tell others.
This week there were only two ladies present but forty children! After Joy had completed the lesson twelve ladies came up and begged her to teach the lesson to them. They had been helping to prepare for a big meeting of all of the churches in Nyimba. She honored their request and taught them too!
Kendall had a great opportunity this week. He was able to teach at a meeting of all of the churches in Nyimba. He taught How to Study a Passage of Scripture on Your Own " and How to Study a Topic". Approximately 80-100 people were to attend these meetings! What a fantastic opportunity for him. Our prayers are that the people who hear this will continue to study the scriptures so that they too may know the Truth.
Joy asks that you please pray for the people of Zambia during this time of loss of their President. It is always difficult to see the future and possible changes that could occur. There will be another election in 90 days due to the fact that the Vice President is appointed by the President. Please pray that God will place in office the man He would have serve.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support of our children in Zambia. What a blessing to serve our Lord!

YAY for the literacy lessons & SUPER YAY for the opportunities for both of you to teach HIS word and how to study it on their own! PRAISE HIM for receptive harvest!
Thanks Mrs. Betsy for the update!
