Routines

Last night as I was getting Easton dressed for bed, I did something out of the ordinary, I put socks on his little feet. Immediately after I was finished putting his socks on he ran to our family shoe pile behind our back door and picked out his tennis shoes. I was thinking, "Easton, why are you getting your shoes, you are in your PJs and it is dark outside, and you just had a bath, that means....bedtime". Then I began to think about it, Easton has learned that when he has socks on, he can get his shoes and then he can play outside. Walking around the house in socks is not normal here in Africa because of the dirt and the heat, but it is our Autumn right now so it is quite cold. As I thought about the routines of our lives, I thought about how in each stage of our lives we all have routines at home, school, work, and church.
A battle we face in ministering here in Zambia is teaching and encouraging the nationals to let go of their traditions that are far from how God wants us to live our lives. That is their "routine". It is hard to break a routine.
This Sunday as you go to church or as you minister to those around you, remember that sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ should BE our routine and more importantly our LIFE! God has truly deepened our passion for the lost in the past month and we are broken and helpless without the prayers of fellow believers and without the Holy Spirit moving in the hearts and lives around us.
Thank you all for your love and encouragement through our first year on the mission field in Zambia! God is so good and He is teaching us so much and we are learning more and more how to depend on Him for ALL things. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
