A Humbling Day...A Day of Challenges

Today has been one of those days on the mission field that you know that God is faithful and that He is our joy.
"For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God." Psalm 62:5-7

Minutes before Kevin arrived on Monday, Zeria found out that her cousin had passed away in a town about 2 hours from us. In Zambia, you MUST attend funerals of family members and neighbors, there is no excuse not to attend. This meant that she needed to go to Petauke (the town 2 hours from us). So, this morning at 0530, I took her to the bus station so that she could catch the 0600 bus.
(So far, this doesn't sound like anything that is a struggle, but just wait.)
I went to start the laundry today, and our washing machine is broken. Yes, this means that I wash all clothes by hand without Zeria's help. I got through about 1/8 of the laundry before my fingers were rubbed raw. I wanted to get discouraged, but I KNOW that Satan wants that...so I decided that he was not going to win...the Lord is the Joy of my life and my salvation! Through this one situation, I have realized how blessed we are to have Zeria as our house helper.

On Thursday, I am having the women from Umodzi Baptist over for lunch and Bible Study and Zeria was going to help me prepare this meal, but thankfully my precious friend Salomi is going to help me prepare the Zambian meal.

God is teaching me to be dependent on Him fully and to be grateful for Zeria's help around the house and for such things as a washing machine. I praise Him for these things today; the incredibly cool weather, a healthy family, a good language exam, electricity all day long, water all day long, good time for rest and time with the Lord. Those are just a few of the MANY things I am thankful for. On days like today, it is easy to get sidetracked by the negative things around us, but those incredibly great things are BRIGHT in our vision and in our reflection of the day that has passed.

(Kevin came on Monday and gave us our language final exam today. Thank you all for praying, we both did well and will be moving to Nyimba in about 2 weeks!)

Yeah! Congratulations on passing the exam! We are excited that you will be moving CLOSER to Lusaka. I can't believe that the good news about passing the exam was not in BIG and BOLD print. I had to really look for it! Love you, friend!

Hi there! You don't know me but I went to college with Kendall and another college friend found this blog and shared it with me. I love reading your posts and seeing the beautiful pictures! I am actually serving as an educational missionary in Maun, Botswana right now, just down the road from you guys! I am happy to join with you in prayer for your great ministry in Zambia.
Blessings,
