The Dairy

We were blessed to have the opportunity to go to an organic dairy farm during our stay in Comanche. Charlie Williams is a dairy farmer and I learned about his dairy and his work over a hamburger at a church cookout! Being the person that I am, I asked him if we could come one day and see what he does at the farm. He was so kind to allow us all to come and visit one afternoon! We had the best time and learned along the way! Here is our adventure in pictures!
On our way to the farm, we stopped at this old bridge and threw lots of rocks into the creek. This was a place that Charlie grew up going to because his grandfather's house is right across the street.
Charlie was telling them a story about when the creek flooded and how the bulls would come to the creek for water and would fight all night long.
Look what was in the middle of the road!!!

The entrance to Charlie's farm. The milk that his farm produces goes to the brand "Organic Valley". They sell to Whole Foods and Publix!
Charlie showed us where the cows milk was stored after they were milked.

 Easton did so great!
Lily the little farmer!
They got to see how the cows were milked so fast!
This is where all the cows are milked twice a day. It was so neat to see how they all lined up and knew what order they needed to go in and how they just filed into their stall to be milked!
Here they all are waiting their turn! Charlie has almost 400 head of cattle total including calves.

Easton wanted to touch one of the heifers so bad, but NO way!

The cows would not come down from the milking pen until the kids moved. They were not too sure about these little people. You can see them not moving an inch in the background!
We were able to taste cold, fresh, organic milk at the farm. It was SOOOO good!

Charlie taught us about the heifers diet and regulations.

The oats that are fed to the cows.

This is the extra food that the cows receive other than grass. A mix of alfalfa grass, oats, and wheat. Organic farmers are held to incredibly high standards of cleanliness and diet.

Going to visit all of the babies!
The calves that will become milk producers soon!

The kids got to ride in the tractor around the farm! They chased a jackrabbit on their ride!

And off they go with Charlie on an adventure!
