We left our home last Sunday afternoon and began our drive east to the town of Chipata to spend the night with our friends before driving on to Malawi for our Annual Zambezi Cluster meeting. We got in the car and not soon after our journey began a drunk man stepped out into the road and began to cross. Kendall slammed on brakes and swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the man. As Kendall swerved he began walking towards our truck. The hand of God was upon us because he managed to get off of the road, Kendall controlled the truck, and there were no cars coming in the oncoming lane. Our hearts were in our stomachs and we were shaken. Lily said another prayer asking the Lord to protect our journey and that people would stay off of the road. We drove a few kilometers down the road and a man was riding his bike across the road and decided to stop in the road (as he saw us coming) and walked his bike across the road. Again, Kendall and I were wondering what was going on. We were not speeding, in fact, going slower than the speed limit and being so cautious. After the second scare, a woman steps out into the road as we approach and Kendall has to swerve to miss her. We prayed again and asked the Lord to please allow us to get to Chipata safely. We turned on praise music and just began to worship as a family as we drove. About 5 minutes after the last incident, two of the most beautiful rainbows we have ever seen appeared in the sky. Kendall looked at me and said, "His promises are forever and He has never left us. God is with us and He is just reminding us of His love and unfailing promises." The rest of the trip was great. We sang and praised the Lord and of course, I had to take pictures of the rainbows as a reminder of that day and the promises that God is always with us!
