Traveling with three kids internationally can be a challenge for any parent. I don’t care how organized you are, it can be a huge challenge. Five passports, five boarding passes, one stroller, two backpacks, and two small carry-ons along with three children ages 5 and under is a handful to say the least!
On Sunday, we began our journey from Johannesburg to Lusaka after our vacation. We were making our way to the gate to wait for our plane to board when all of the sudden Kendall says, “where are the passports?” We had bought a small pouch to keep them all in so that we would not lose them. We began to panic a bit and began asking people around us if they had seen them. I stopped in my panic, looked at my three children sitting against the wall and kneeled down next to them and said, “Daddy is looking for our passports because we don’t know where they are. So we need to pray to ask Jesus to help us find them so we can go home to Zambia.” We began to pray, as I prayed outloud the kids voiced their own prayers to Jesus, even Lauren was speaking to the Lord about our circumstance. We said “amen” and I looked at Lily and said, “baby girl, we are going to be okay, just sit right here while I go help daddy.”
The kids sat so close to one another, clinging to our carry-on bags. I approached the security guard who was watching me with the kids and I began to explain to her our trouble and that we were missionaries in Zambia. I told her that we were praying and that we knew that God knew this was going to happen and we have to trust Him fully. She looked at me and said, “you are right baby girl, you are right.” I held back the tears and in my heart kept trusting that it was all going to work out and that God was in control. I looked over and saw Kendall about to get on the elevator. Just then, the door opened and a South African man with gray pants and a black t-shirt stepped out of the elevator with our passport bag in his hand. Tears filled my eyes, peace calmed my soul, and joy was abundant. I ran to the kids and told them that the Lord had answered our prayers and an angel had brought us back our passports. Lily began to cry she was so happy and just in time, we boarded our plane home to Zambia.
God is so good all the time! All the time God is good! It is so true, praise Him that He goes before us in all things and He is right beside us taking each step of our day with us. I don’t know what I would do without Jesus Christ in my life.
