In June of 2013, I was offered the position as Junior High teacher at Logos Christian in Casa Grande. I was so excited to be back in the classroom again. I am currently the teacher for 7, 6th-8th graders. I am blessed.
When I began planning and praying about this year The Lord really impressed on my heart the importance of ingraining His Word on their hearts. My prayer and goal this year was to equip these youth with the Sword and how to live out their faith day by day. In my first letter to parents I was pretty bold and expressed to them my desire to see that their student knew Jesus Christ personally. ( I guess after 6 years in Africa, I've become pretty bold about the Gospel.)
First day of school I stood up before these students and was nervous to share Christ with them. Satan was aiming darts at me and trying to distract me from the path that the Lord had set before me. They are youth...why was I so afraid, scared, ashamed? Nothing else, but fear. Fear only comes from Satan and I knew that he was behind it.
Since that day, we have perused, examined, delved into, and discussed God's Word on a myriad of topics. The Book of John, Judaism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Islam, Salvation, Eschatology, and so much more. It makes my heart leap with joy when a student comes in excited to discuss something that they heard or saw and want to see if it is in line with Scripture. Their eyes have been opened and they see the power of the Word of God in their lives.
I pray for them daily. I pray that they will not stray from God's Word and His love. I pray that they will not be entangled by temptation or sin that can trip them up. I pray most of all that they all have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The answer to that prayer came last night. A mother of one of my students wrote me a text and said, " she wants to be baptized!" She had come to the faith a while back but never asked about baptism. My heart was filled to overflowing because I knew that she had been allowing the Holy Spirit move in her heart because of the questions she had been asking in class.
In Luke 15:4-5, Jesus tells the parable of the Lost Sheep. "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing." There are 7 in my flock at school, and 1 has come. As their teacher, I am pretty sure of the salvation of others, but if it were just for this ONE....it was worth it all!
