The Simple Things

My 2nd Grade Science Fair project at Bethesda Elementary was entitled, "Simple Machines". It was all about pulleys, levers, and inclines. My Daddy was an civil engineering major in college and taught me a great deal about how to make life easier! Well, Lily is in the 2nd grade, and no, I haven't taught her simple machines, she is figuring it out on her own! We were cleaning out the other day and the girls found two buckets they had gotten in America. Then they found a spool of ribbon and began dragging the buckets around the yard with no purpose. Within the next hour, I look and see that Lily has figured out that if she hangs the string over an object the bucket goes up and down! Well, this morning I look outside and the girls have both made simple machines that hold the limes that they are collecting from the ground. After they gather the limes, they put them in the bucket, pull the bucket up and tie it off until they return. It is amazing to me how kids really are so innovative with little things, makes me smile and probably would make their D-daddy grin too!
