Zambians LOVE inswa because after they remove the wings and fry them, they are like roasted peanuts are to those who live in America.
I was a little..okay...a LOT hesitant to even pick up a dead, fried, bug to eat it! Kevin was here visiting us and all he kept saying to me was ,"Come on, Joy, don't be so girly! Just eat it and don't think about what you are eating!" HA! Yeah right...needless to say, I ate ONE!
That was all for me! BUT...little did I know that Princess Preppy (a.k.a. Lily) would be so fond of them!
I love Lily's face when she eats them and Zeria laughs everytime Lily eats one! What a pair they are!
Along with the inswa....
We had some beautiful surprises spring up in our yard that we did not plant!

I don't know the name of this flower, but Kendall has seen many of them in the bush near mountains around Nyimba.

Joy. WOW what an adventure!
I think the flowers are like Spider Lilies We have something similar that blooms in early fall here. Really the end of summer.
I think of you guys often

Gross, bug eating... I can imagine Lily in 20 years looking back on her childhood and craving those bugs. Those flowers look very similar to the ones that bloom here in NC. I find them randomly in the yard.
I miss you so much! Ok now that I have shouted that for everyone to know how much I miss you, UGH! All I kept thinking is WOW Joy is such a good mom for not making Lily miss out on that experience because of her own thoughts (way to go moma), and then I thought, oh the stories that girl will be able to tell when she comes home on furlough. We will probably take her to some nice place for dinner and she will be craving those bugs! Just such an adventure you all are living and it thrills my little heart to no end! May your daughter truly see that God provides blessing and treats for all his people. And I know Z appreciated the treat from the Lord, and sharing her treat with you. What a testimony to our Lord!
shoo-ey yuck poo-ey! don't know if i could have tried a fried, wingless, ground bug... but i admire you for giving it a shot! and that is so funny that Lily loved them! that is awesome! i agree that Zeria probably really enjoyed the abundance & loved sharing them with you guys! great pics, once again! love ya joy!
