Friendships in the Markets and Practicing Chichewa

The greatest part about being in Chipata are the people. They are so loving and genuine. When I need to go to the market for vegetables or clothes for the kids, I frequent the "New" Kapata Market or the Saturday Market. Today, as I went to the markets I took my camera along so that you can see the markets and 2 of my friends. Ezernat is my newest friend and she has a shop in the Kapata market full of nice, gently worn clothes which are great for the kids and myself!! My second friend is Mr. M I have been buying vegetables and fruits from him since we arrived in Chipata. His stand is located in the Saturday market. Both of these people are great and I love going to the market to see them and practice what little Chichewa I know! For now, visiting people, building friendships, and practicing Chichewa is our biggest ministry here in Chipata. We pray each day that as we interact with the Zambians that they would see Jesus Christ in us.

A quick reflection about this tree. This tree is called the Jaqueranda Tree. Right now in Zambia it is the driest time of the year, but yet this tree produces the most gorgeous purple flowers that brighten up the dull surroundings. The tree is a blessing in that it reminds us that God is faithful and that the rains are coming, just be patient and enjoy the beauty of this tree.

WOW! That was a pretty cool reflection on the tree & the provisions of the Lord. The market looks fun! Looks like you've really adapted to life in Zambia.

Dear Joy,

We now live in the desert in Arizona and we are so amazed that beautiful plants and trees, like the Jaqueranda can live in such dry climates. We get about 5 inches of rain a year. It was nice to see the new pictures and we are so enjoying seeing what a beautiful example you are as you serve the Lord. We still remember you at 8 months of age and are so proud of the beautiful and dedicated young lady you have become. We will continue to lift you and your family up in prayer.

Love, Susie & Lenny
